300 Days: The Plan

Brooke and I first met back in 2011 whilst travelling. We had both left our jobs in London to go and ‘travel the world’. We never knew each other in the UK. Our paths would have never crossed were it not for our shared passion for travel and adventure. Plus a strong desire to change our lives and see the world.

Our paths eventually crossed on a little island called Ilha Grande (off the coast off Rio de Janeiro). To cut a long story short, we ended up deciding to move to Sydney the following year. We moved in together, made a life together, got engaged and are now planning our wedding.

Throughout this all, we both knew one day that we would go travelling again. It was not a matter of if, but when. It took us 5 years to make the stars align. And a lot of planning to get us to this stage.

A long time ago we started making a spreadsheet of all the places on earth that we would like to visit, how long we would need, and how much it would cost. I remember our first iteration taking 18 months in total and costing a small fortune. We knew we had to make some sacrifices. Slowly but surely we refined the spreadsheet, optimizing our plans and designing one of the best honeymoon’s ever planned!

On the 8th of March 2017 we embark on an epic 300-day journey around the world. We will kick things off by getting married on a picture perfect beach in the Riviera Maya – a stretch of Caribbean coastline on Mexico’s north-eastern Yucatán Peninsula. We will then spend 6 weeks travelling through Central America, visiting Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Cuba.

Next we fly to North America and spend over 2 months road-tripping through the USA and Canada. Followed by 6 weeks in Brooke’s homeland, the United Kingdom, visiting family and seeing the sights. 2 months driving around Europe / Scandinavia follows and after a quick visit to Iceland we hop over to Russia to catch the Trans-Siberian railway from Moscow to Beijing. We finally arrive in Africa, joining a 54-day camping tour from Cape Town to Nairobi.

Based on our calculations, our last day travelling, number 300, will be New Year’s Day 2018… but this could change of course 😉

44 countries over 300 days with the love of my life… I honestly can’t wait!
